چکیده

Experiments a r e reported in which ~xus ica l ly trained subjects ~ i a t c h the pitch of zl. stimulus tone with a var iablc response tone, both tones being synthesis of a sung vo\vel. The effects on pitch and pitch perception ac curacy of vibratos of different kinds and tile ' singing formant' a r e examined. The resul t s appear to show that the pitch corresponds to the average fundamental frequency to the f i r s t approximation eventhough deviations from this average occur that may be explained by postulating a time constant in the fundamental frequency measuring system of the ea r . Adding I a vibrato or a ' singing formant ' to a voxel sound affects neither the pitch perceived nor the accuracy of the pitch perception appreciably. Thc standard deviatioii value s obtained f rom tilc exper i r i~ents a r e considerably smaller than the difference limen for f r e q ~ e n c y probably owing to the subjects' training and to the fact that complex waveforms were used in the experixeiits.

The Study of Vowel Space and Formant Structure in Mazani Language

Objective: One of the parameters showing the correct phonetic and phonological development is the correct and clear articulation of vowels is achieved by changing the shape of vocal cords through altering the height and position of the tongue and the movement of the lips and jaw. The tongue’s height and position are the basis of the production and difference of vowels. In other words, the raw s...

Early integration of vowel and pitch processing: a mismatch negativity study.

OBJECTIVE Several studies have explored the processing specificity of music and speech, but only a few have addressed the processing autonomy of their fundamental components: pitch and phonemes. Here, we examined the additivity of the mismatch negativity (MMN) indexing the early interactions between vowels and pitch when sung. METHODS Event-related potentials (ERPs) were recorded while partic...

Formant frequency analysis of children's spoken and sung vowels using sweeping fundamental frequency production.

High-pitched productions present difficulties in formant frequency analysis due to wide harmonic spacing and poorly defined formants. As a consequence, there is little reliable data regarding children's spoken or sung vowel formants. Twenty-nine 11-year-old Swedish children were asked to produce 4 sustained spoken and sung vowels. In order to circumvent the problem of wide harmonic spacing, F1 ...

Processing interactions between phonology and melody: vowels sing but consonants speak.

The aim of this study was to determine if two dimensions of song, the phonological part of lyrics and the melodic part of tunes, are processed in an independent or integrated way. In a series of five experiments, musically untrained participants classified bi-syllabic nonwords sung on two-tone melodic intervals. Their response had to be based on pitch contour, on nonword identity, or on the com...

Generation of Fundamental Frequency Contours of Mandarin in HMM-based Speech Synthesis using Generation Process Model

The HMM-based speech synthesis system can produce high quality synthetic speech with flexible modeling of spectral and prosodic parameters. In this approach, short term spectra, fundamental frequency (F0) and duration are generated by multi-stream HMMs separately. However the quality of synthetic speech degrades when feature vectors used in training are noisy. Among all noisy features, pitch tr...
